This past month, Alan led two parenting seminars in Florida and one in North Carolina. Our desire has been to reach out to the smaller churches that might not otherwise be able to hold a seminar because of the financial cost. We are not asking for travel/lodging costs because we are already traveling in the area and staying in our RV. Sometimes it works out where we can stay at the church in the parking lot and hook up to water/electricity there, so it is free for us too:)
When we first started, our hope was that 15 people would come to the seminar. At the first seminar we had 16! The second seminar had 23, and the third one had around 30! Although we are not interested solely in the numbers, it was very encouraging! It was also neat to meet so many wonderful, friendly people at each church. The boys also enjoyed some time playing with other children as well. Before the seminar and in the beginning, the boys usually stay with me to help set up the books for the resource table. There have been times they stay with me near the table during the seminar, and other times I go with them in the children's area. We are trying to be flexible with that, since we don't want the boys to get bored to death by hearing the same curriculum from the seminars over and over. We also want them to have the chance to play and be around other kids their age.
Our prayer is to help equip other parents using wisdom from the Bible and resources from The National Center for Biblical Parenting. As I said before, we are still learning all of this ourselves...many times more than once! Alan and I have said that we probably will be learning and getting the most out of this parenting ministry because we get to hear these truths and tips over and over:) It has been neat to see the positive changes in our family as we are constantly reminded to evaluate our hearts. We want to guide and discipline our children to reach their hearts, not just change their behavior.
We are headed to South Carolina next where we have 2 conferences scheduled in the next few weeks. Please pray for us as we travel and for the parents who will be attending the conferences. We hope they will leave encouraged and equipped with helpful resources for their families. Thank you!!
Blessings to you and yours,
Jill and the boys:)
