Tampa Museum of Science and Industry

During our stay in Wildwood, Florida, we took a day trip into Tampa to visit the Museum of Science and Industry.  With our Evansville Museum Membership Pass, we received free admission for 5 of us, and we only paid one guest admission price of about $11. We saved almost $80!!! Wahoo!

The museum had a children's area called "Kids in Charge".  There were all kinds of puzzles, brain teasers, hands on science exhibits, and a planetarium show.

There was a "bed of nails" exhibit for anyone who dared to try it! :) So...Alan and I did, but the boys decided to skip it!

First, you lay down on the "bed" and then push the button. 3,000 nails poke through the holes at the same time! It did feel kind of funny, but it didn't hurt.  It did freak me out a little bit though!

The older boys (including Alan) enjoyed working on the brain teaser puzzles. There were a few that we just couldn't figure out, but an employee came by and showed us how to solve them.

Caleb really enjoyed the speaker testing exhibit.  He selected some rock music, and just really jammed out to the beat!

Joshua also liked the music area...especially playing the bucket drum set!

In the main part of the museum was an exhibit called "Disasterville". It had all kinds of interesting facts, activities and displays involving natural disasters and their effects.

Want to know what it feels like to be in a hurricane? Just try out the Hurricane Chamber where the wind speed reaches over 73 miles per hour!!!

Caleb wasn't so sure he would like it at first...he held onto Daddy really tight! Then he looked out and gave me a thumbs up!!! So cute!

Nathanael and I were laughing at first...

Then my hair was whipping around so fast, it was hitting and hurting both of us!!! I was trying to lift it away from our faces, but it was SOOO windy in there!!!  Poor Nathanael!!!

WE SURVIVED THROUGH THE HURRICANE...BARELY!

This museum also had a nice outdoor playground and picnic area where we enjoyed our packed lunch.  We had a great time visiting this museum, but I would caution parents to preview the "Amazing Me" exhibit on the top floor before you go there with small children because it goes into some detail about human anatomy and it just seemed more geared for older children/teens.  We decided to skip that area of the museum during our visit.

Overall, it was a great day of fun, learning, and family time!
