State # 16 - Maryland! State Capitol Visit # 8!!

After leaving PA, we headed south to Maryland, and camped at an RV park near the Washington D.C. area.  During our stay, we drove to Annapolis and visited the Maryland State Capitol - the oldest active state capitol building in the United States!  It opened in 1779, and it is the location where George Washington resigned as Commander in Chief of the Continental armies.

This capitol building does not offer public tours, but we were able to walk around and explore on our own. The first section we saw was the newer addition that was added onto the original building later.

The boys favorite part was finding an old phone booth! They each took turns inside. Caleb pretended to be Superman...here he comes to save the day!

Looks like Micah got an important phone call!!

In the photo below there is a painting of George Washington resigning his commission in front of Congress.  We learned something interesting about this particular painting.  It is hard to see, but on George Washington's right, you can see Martha Washington.  Apparently, this is not historically accurate because many years ago women were not allowed in the Senate Chambers!

As you walk into the original part of the building, you can see the dome...

They recently renovated the Old Senate Chamber to look like it did in the late 1700s...

Annapolis is a fun area to walk around to see boats, do some shopping, and have ice cream on a hot day of course:)

Blessings to you and yours,

Jill and the boys:)
